Funny Irish Blessing

“May those who love us, love us,
And those who don’t love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if he doesn’t turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we will know them by their limping.”

This has always been one of my favorite Irish blessings, and it seems to be a favorite among Etsy shoppers as well. I have sold two already, and just added a third to my shop. I like using the Celtic knot of the two people intertwined on this one: it’s hard to tell if they’re hugging or fighting, which goes well with the spirit of the blessing.

  1. What a beautiful concept for a store … I wish you great success with your work. It’s beautiful. Have you considered adding art to your text? I’ll bet you’d be good at it (illuminata, is that it?). I love the idea of someone bent over a manuscript, creating a unique treasure!

Congratulations on your new blog, I just found you through an Etsy forum.

  2. Hi, Sally! Thanks a bunch!

I do illuminate my texts by adding Celtic knots and other little decorative features similar to what I find in Celtic manuscripts. I sometimes do calligraphy based on Gothic manuscripts that have more art in them, but I confess that I’m much more of a calligrapher than an artist, and I try to stick with my strengths instead of embarrassing myself by trying stuff that’s beyond my skill. 🙂 I’m much better at plants and decorative figures than at people.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!
